Project Monitor is designed for accountants, lawyers and software developers; in fact, it's ideal for just about any consultant or contractor working on a time-for-money basis whose livelihood depends upon accurately categorising and recording their working day on the basis of client, project and activity.
By creating a hierarchy of clients, projects and activities when you first start Project Monitor, you can limit the combinations of client, project and activity you're able to assign times against to those you've defined.
Once you've created your hierarchy of clients, projects and activities, you're free to choose whether to record your work tasks in real time or enter them retrospectively.
Project Monitor can streamline the process of raising invoices and provide a high level of detail if the client requests it. With its flexible filtering options, Project Monitor is also an invaluable tool when analysing time spent on particular tasks over the course of a project, allowing detailed comparison of actual times with project estimates.
Project Monitor isn't trying to be a fully-fledged accounting package - there are plenty of products available which perform that role - but it does provide features which allow you to indicate whether times have been invoiced or paid as well as record an invoice number, invoice date or payment date against one or more work records.
Weekly or fortnightly timesheets can be generated with a few mouse clicks. Other reporting options allow you to print detailed or summarised reports displaying times recorded against your hierarchy of clients, projects and activities.
Should you wish to work with your times independently of Project Monitor, the ability to export your times to a comma-separated text file gives you the freedom to manipulate or extend your data with an external tool such as Excel.
For more advanced users, you can easily create customised queries and reports using Access, or any other tool which can connect to a Microsoft JET database.
Project Monitor has been submitted for review and listing at many software download sites and has received several top-rated rankings, including a coveted "5-Cow" rating from Tucows, one the internet's premier software sites.
Recording your times is as easy as entering the details of your current task then clicking the "Clock On" button. Click the "Clock Off" button when you complete your task.
Alternatively, you can choose to enter your task details manually after the event using a dedicated maintenance screen.
Use the same maintenance screen to modify details, add comments or record invoicing details.
By highlighting one or more records then right-clicking, you can flag the selected records as invoiced or paid and assign invoice and payment details to them.
You can use Project Monitor as a customer and contacts database, recording as much or as little information as you feel you need to.
You can easily restrict the display of times you've recorded on the basis of a wide and very flexible range of filter criteria.
You can also filter on invoice number, or even on words or phrases contained in the comments you've recorded.
Print weekly or fortnightly timesheets.
Print detailed or summarised reports categorised by client, project and activity. You can even choose to add your own sub-title and company name.
